Sangre de Cristo # 15
A 36x58 - inch oil on canvas painting.
It is late autumn in the upper reaches of the Sange de Cristo Mountains. Snows have accumulated above 12,000 feet as early winter storms begin their assault. Massive banks of roiling clouds roll over the ridges, churning with energy, as if monstrous ocean waves. This direct interaction of atmosphere and land is my primary goal here. Staying loose with the gestural drawing was key to establishing this fluid yet energetic drama played out in the clouds.
